An insufficient amount of sleep has been linked to physician burnout. More than half of all physicians experience burnout symptoms while on the job. The researchers highlight that the prevalence of shift-work schedules, high workload, long hours, sleep interruptions, and insufficient recovery sleep have been linked to widespread burnout. This not only applies to physicians; the condition also includes staff and caregivers.
